My current obsession with cake continues...I wanted to try to make a wedding cake, but I didn't want the actual cake (even I can eat only so much cake ). So I used styrofoam blanks for the "cake" portion and just focused on the decoration part.
Teir 1: Covered in fondant, fondant stripes in black, and topped with a gum paste peony; gum paste leaves and flowers then cascade down the side. Teir 2: Covered in fondant then gilded with edible gold leaf Teir 3: Covered in fondant with molded fondant decorations that have been covered in gold luster dust I'd estimate I spent about 12 hours on it and I know totally understand why they are so expensive.

I took a bit of a break from my usual soapy and crafty projects and have been spending some time in the kitchen doing some cake decorating. My neighbor is retiring and her daughter asked me to make a cake which I was very excited to do. It's chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream and a sweet brandied cherry filling covered in marshmallow fondant. the flowers are hand formed with gum paste. The lace is a product called Sugar dress that is used with silicone molds to make the lace.
